Praise

All in all, Hunted is a very enjoyable read, especially for those who enjoy angel/demon books. This one has everything you want in an angel book while still maintaining its own distinct feel.

This series is addictive.

AMAZING! There is not enough words to describe how much I loved Hunted. Ednah Walters has outdid herself if that is even possible.

My Review

Unfortunately, I started reading this series in the middle and was a little confused at first about what was going on, but with the handy SELECTED GLOSSARY OF TERMINOLOGY at the beginning it gave me some background that I needed.  This was an interesting young adult fantasy with angels and demons that blew me away with the detail, interesting characters and the fantastic story line that just sucked me into the story and never let me go.  The build up to find out who the enemy was well done and wasn’t a disappointment.  Now, I HAVE to go back and get the first two books in the series, AWAKENED and BETRAYED, so I can savor this series from the beginning.  Thank you to Ms. Walters for giving me the opportunity to review her book and a big THANK YOU to INSPIRED KATHY at http://www.iamareader.com/2013/02/hunted-by-ednah-walters-blog-tour.html for having me be a part of this blog tour.

Author Ednah Walters

I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy boys mysteries, hence Stratemeyer influence, before I graduated to Mills & Boons (starting with Janet Daily’s Shutter the Sky) and the rest is history.

I enjoy good love stories, tingly mysteries and wondrous adventures. When I finished my college and decided to be a stay-at-home mother, I devoured books like they were going out of production, until reading just wasn’t enough. So I started to write.

I’ve written picture books, contemporary and romantic suspense, biracial/multicultural books, and finally YA fantasy. Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy series. I’m working on book 2, tentatively named Betrayed. When I’m not writing, I do things with my family, five children or my darling husband of 18 years. I live in a picturesque valley in Utah, the setting for my series.

Book review: Just One Night, Part One: The Stranger by Kyra Davis (9781476711102) E-book

e28876ffd2150755973366b6667434d414f4141Kasie Fitzgerald’s best friend, Simone, takes her to Vegas for one last fling before she ties the knot.  Kasie feels out of place in the tight red “bandage dress” that Simone lends her, but she meets a mysterious stranger who gives her a night of unforgettable pleasure.  “This man, he’s not like the man who raked my body with his eyes, all conceit and sleaze.  This man isn’t pushing his agenda on me.  He’s drawing out mine; reading my movements, my smiles, the quick path of my eyes. Tonight I’m the girl who is going to sleep with a stranger.”  But what about her fiance Dave.  “This isn’t the woman I’m supposed to be.”  Or is it?

All I can say is hot, hot, hot!!!  An erotic ride where Kasie battles with her desires and weaknesses which leaves you breathless and only makes it worse with the cliffhanger at the end.  Can’t wait to get my hands on Part 2.

Thank you for Ms. Davis, Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for giving me this opportunity review this very hot book.

Book review: Cat Sayings: Wit & Wisdom from the Whiskered Ones by Bradford G. Wheler (9780982253847)

0982253842.01._SX140_SY224_SCLZZZZZZZ_This book is part of BookCollaborative.com’s Wit & Wisdom series which “provides artists with a platform through which they can gain exposure and recognition”.  The book contains a majority of oil paintings, watercolor paintings and photographs of cats, both domestic and wild, along with cat and animal quotes from Winston Churchill to Charles Dickens.  Mr. Wheler adds biographies at the back of the book for all of the artists and photographers whose art is featured in the book.

The illustrations and photographs are thoughtful, colorful and fun and I give Mr. Bradford much credit for helping new artists show their work.  Very well done and I hope to check out his other books at www.BookCollaborative.com.

Thank you to Mr. Wheler for giving me the opportunity to review his book.

Book review: Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband by Melissa Mayhue (9781416532866)

1416532862.01._SX140_SY224_SCLZZZZZZZ_This is the first book in the The Daughters of the Glen series which takes us from 21st century Colorado to 13th century Scotland.  Caitlyn Coryell has discovered her selfish, power-hungry fiance with another woman in his office and realizes that she didn’t really love the man in the first place.  Conner MacKiernan is desperate to save his sister Mairi from being forced to marry the horrible MacPherson and relies on his Fae ancestry to find a woman for him to marry (something he vowed he would never do) in order for him to have the power to rescue his sister.  Little do Caitlyn and Conner know that the Fae power will alter their lives forever.

This is my first Melissa Mayhue book and I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.  I always enjoy time travel romances and this was no exception.  The characters were fun and the plot line was unique with the Fae element added to it.  I would like to read more about Conner’s Aunt Rosalyn and his sister Mairi and hope to see them in Mayhue’s future books in the series.

Virtual Book Review Tour and Giveaway: Chosen by Denise Grover Swank

Welcome to my blog!  I’m excited to present Denise Grover Swank’s book Chosen.

Book Summary

Everything Emma Thompson owns fits in a suitcase she moves from one roach infested motel to another. She and Jake, her five year old son who can see the future, are running from the men intent on taking him. Emma will do anything to protect him even when it means accepting the help of a stranger named Will. Jake insists she needs Will, but Emma’s never needed help before. And even though she’s learned to trust her son, it doesn’t mean she trusts Will.

Mercenary Will Davenport lives in the moment. Hauling Emma to South Dakota should have been an easy job, but his employer neglected to tell him about Emma’s freaky son and the gunmen hot on her trail. Instinct tells him this job is trouble, but nothing can prepare him for Jake’s proclamation that Will is The Chosen One, who must protect Emma from the men hunting her power. A power she doesn’t know she has.

Will protects Emma and Jake on a cross-country chase from the men pursuing them, while struggling with memories from his past, his apprehension of Jake, and his growing attraction to Emma. Will’s overwhelming urge to protect Emma surprises him, especially since it has nothing to do with his paycheck and possibly everything to do with the tattoo Jake branded on his arm. Rich and powerful men are desperate to capture Emma, and Will must discover why before it’s too late.

RT Rating 4 Stars

This first in a series opens with a punch and stays on course from start to finish. The plot is smoothly woven without extraneous details to lull you to sleep. A new voice in the urban fantasy genre, Grover Swank is definitely one to watch. Add this to your shelves.

   Excerpt from the Book

“We can trust him,” the boy repeated.

She turned to look out the windshield and hung both of her arms over the steering wheel. “Are you sure?” she asked, staring straight ahead.

“Yes.”

She rested her chin on her hands and closed her eyes. He decided she must be trying to figure out how to deal with this change of events. Personally, Will thought it was going too far on the permissive parenting scale letting a preschooler make a decision like that, but hey, it worked in his favor. He sure wasn’t going to protest.

“Okay,” she finally said, sitting up. “I need to leave town. They know we’re here so we’ve got to leave as soon as we can.”

“Who exactly are they?” Will asked. As far as he knew, he was the only one on this job. He’d be pissed if they hired someone else as backup.

“You don’t need to know that,” she said, turning at the corner. “How do you plan on helping us?”

“I can help you leave town.”

“Why would you do that?” Her eyes narrowed as she looked behind for signs of the SUV.

Will had seen the damage. The SUV wasn’t going anywhere. Where the hell had she learned a move like that?

He gave her his rugged, bad boy smirk and shrugged. “What can I say? I’m a sucker for a damsel in distress.”

“Do better than that,” she snorted.

He liked that she wasn’t easily snowed, even if it made his job more difficult.

“Let’s just say I’m hoping to get lucky, and maybe if I’m nice enough, I will.” He gave her a slow, lazy smile as he leaned against the door, crossing his arms.

She rolled her eyes. “Don’t count on it.”

“Don’t crush a man’s hopes. Just wait and see. I might grow on you.”

Raising her eyebrows, she twisted her lips into a wry smile. “That’s what I’m afraid of.”

My Review

It seems like Emma and her son have been running for their lives forever. But who are they running from and why do these people want to kill them? Only Jake’s ability to sense when the unknown people are getting close has kept them alive. Enter the stranger, Will, who will save them from the unknown. Or does he?

This is an intense thriller from the very beginning about a prophecy of the promised ones (The Chosen One, The Queen, The Elevated One and The Supplanter) who will meet in another time to overcome an evil that can only be imagined.

A great read! On to the next in the series.

Book review: The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch (9780545388092) Audiobook

It is good to see a young male protagonist in a young adult fiction novel.  I was beginning to wonder if they existed.

Stephen Quinn, 15,  and his father are living in a post apocalyptic world which was devastated by an unknown plague.  They travel around the country as salvagers who trade their wares to stay alive.  However, their luck has run out and they stumble upon some slavers which leads to a horrible injury to Stephen’s dad.  Lost and alone Stephen has to rely on strangers (something his grandfather said to never do) to help him get a handle on his life.  The strangers are part of a place called Settlers’ Landing  who have learned to sustain life as they know it.  Fortunately, Stephen has found a friend in an orphan named Jenny who refuses to accept things as they are.  But can Stephen trust all of them?

This is an interesting take on a dystopian world that is a fast-paced story with a good plot.  The characters are interesting and believable.  This young adult novel will spur you on to read the next one in the series to find out what happens to Stephen and Jenny.  The narrator, Dan Bittner, does a great job bringing the characters to life.

Book review: Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain (9781427205032) Book on CD

In reading the second installment of the Gretchen Lowell series, I was interested to find out what happened with the unusual relationship of Archie Sheridan (Portland police detective) and Gretchen Lowell (serial killer). Ms. Cain did not disappoint me.

Archie Sheridan is trying to mend his relationship with his wife and children. He has kept away from Gretchen Lowell, but his thoughts are always with her and the pills he takes for the pain caused by being Gretchen’s last torture victim, are taking their toll. Archie wants to die and Gretchen’s escape from prison has given him a plan to make his wish come true.

Susan Ward wants to expose Senator Castle’s past “affair” with a 14-year old, but there is a cover up that involves murder. Who killed her mentor, what have the bodies in the park have to do with the Castle story and who is trying to kill her?

Again, a great suspense thriller with two nail-biting mysteries to keep you reading until the ultimate climax. On to book 3.
